KATHMANDU: The Nepali delegation, which is in Arusha, Tanzania, to participate in the 153rd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), discussed with the IPU Secretariat on the agenda of climate emergencies, focusing on the flooding of the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers and the increasing disasters in the Himalayan region due to climate change.
Speaker Dol Prasad (DP) Aryal’s Secretariat stated that emphasis was placed during the discussions on reducing risks, disaster preparedness, enhancing resilience, and making international parliamentary cooperation more effective in areas affected by climate-induced disasters and sensitive zones.
Nepal is trying to mobilize support by discussing with various member countries to get the related proposal passed by the IPU Assembly.
