KATHMANDU: Nepal’s active taxpayer base rose to 7,910,964 by the end of fiscal year 2025/26 (2082/83 BS) after 911,614 new registrations for PAN, VAT, and Excise Duty, according to the Inland Revenue Department (IRD).

The department attributed the growth to expanded digital services, simplified registration through taxpayer service offices and local governments, and continued efforts to widen the tax net. A year earlier, the country had 6,999,350 active PAN taxpayers.

Individual PAN registrations continued to dominate, reaching 5,696,708, with 793,986 new registrations during the year. Business PAN registrations stood at 2,175,092, including 114,334 newly registered firms and companies.

The number of VAT-registered taxpayers increased to 378,268 after 26,533 new registrations, while excise permit holders rose to 132,672, with 7,675 new taxpayers added. Withholding Tax PAN (W-PAN) registrations also climbed to 39,164, up by 3,294 over the fiscal year.
