Nepse falls 9 points as turnover drops to Rs3.67 billion

KATHMANDU: Nepal’s benchmark stock index fell 9.04 points to close at 2,641.05 on Monday as selling pressure persisted through most of the trading session.

A total of 82 companies gained, while 179 declined and 15 remained unchanged. Market turnover also fell to Rs3.67 billion from Rs3.77 billion recorded on Friday.

Solukhumbu Hydropower, Ridi Power, First Microfinance, Saptakoshi Development Bank and Ankhu Khola Hydropower were among the most actively traded companies.

Four sectoral indices closed higher, although all sector movements remained below 1%. The hydropower index rose 0.06%, manufacturing and processing 0.04%, microfinance 0.19% and non-life insurance 0.04%.

Corporate Development Bank posted the biggest gain, rising 8.47%, followed by Darankhola Hydropower at 6%, First Microfinance at 4.61%, Upper Hewakhola Hydropower at 4.47% and SY Panel at 4.21%.

The hydropower sector recorded the highest turnover at Rs1.85 billion.

Meanwhile, banking stocks fell 0.72%, hotels and tourism 0.70%, life insurance 0.62%, investment 0.60%, finance 0.41%, trading 0.86%, development banks 0.12% and the “others” sector 0.44%.

Atmanirbhar Laghubitta fell 8.87%, while Saptakoshi Development Bank dropped 7.49%, recording the steepest declines among the traded stocks.

Commercial banks recorded turnover of Rs330 million, manufacturing and processing companies Rs370 million and development banks Rs300 million.
