NEPSE falls by 35.92 points to close at 2,558.35

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index fell sharply by 35.92 points to close at 2,558.35 on Wednesday, as shares of hydropower companies operating in areas affected by the Bhote Koshi River flood came under heavy selling pressure.

The decline was particularly pronounced among hydropower companies in flood-affected areas. Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Company fell 15 percent, hitting the negative circuit limit. Similarly, Molung Khola Hydropower Company declined 14.99 percent, Trishuli Hydropower Company fell 12.95 percent, Madhya Mewa Khola Hydropower dropped 11.56 percent, and Sanjen Hydropower Company declined 11.18 percent.

Despite the decline in the overall market, daily turnover increased. Shares worth Rs 4.773 billion were traded on Wednesday, compared with Rs 4.109 billion on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Sarbottam Paints bucked the broader market decline, with its share price reaching the positive circuit limit.
