KATHMANDU: Sudhakar Dalela, India’s newly appointed ambassador to Nepal, arrived in Kathmandu on Tuesday to take up his diplomatic post. Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indian Embassy welcomed him at Tribhuvan International Airport.

Dalela’s arrival comes a day before Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri begins a two-day official visit to Nepal on Wednesday.

Before his appointment, Dalela served as secretary for economic relations at India’s Ministry of External Affairs, a position he had held since 2025. He previously served as India’s ambassador to Bhutan for three years.

A career diplomat who joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1993, Dalela has also served in diplomatic missions in several countries, including Israel, Brazil, Bangladesh, Switzerland and the United States. He has experience in trade policy, economic diplomacy and India’s relations with neighboring countries.
