KATHMANDU: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has urged all three levels of government to make the rescue, relief, treatment, and rehabilitation works more effective in areas affected by the devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers.
In a statement issued today, NHRC Joint Secretary and Spokesperson Dr Tikaram Pokhrel has stressed that post-disaster rescue, relief, and rehabilitation work should be carried out in a human rights-friendly manner.
Dr Pokhrel said that monitoring teams were deployed in affected districts like Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, and Chitwan to conduct initial monitoring of the rescue operations, treatment of the injured, and the human rights situation of those in holding centers.
The commission expressed condolences to the families of those who died in the flood, shared sympathy with the grieving families, and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
The NHRC has thanked the security personnel, health workers, civil service staff, psychosocial counselors, national and international organizations, and the general public involved in humanitarian aid and rescue efforts.
The commission has urged all three levels of government to collaborate and coordinate with the private sector in rescue, relief, treatment, and rehabilitation efforts in the flood-affected areas.
It has urged the general public to support the government in activities related to rescue, relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction, to be active in humanitarian aid efforts, and not to make negative comments on social media about the suffering of affected families in this difficult situation brought about by the disaster.
The NHRC has also requested people to stay away from spreading rumors and such news.
