Nine Federal Parliament Committees scheduled to meet today

KATHMANDU: Nine parliamentary committees under the Federal Parliament are scheduled to hold separate meetings today to deliberate on a range of legislative, policy and oversight issues.

According to the Federal Parliament Secretariat, the meetings are being held on the same day that the House of Representatives is scheduled to convene, while the National Assembly is set to meet on Friday.

The Finance Committee, meeting at 11:00 am, will continue clause-by-clause deliberations on the Bill to Amend the Nepal Rastra Bank Act, 2058. The Finance Minister and Finance Secretary have been invited to participate in the discussion.

At the same time, the International Relations and Tourism Committee will discuss the Tourism Bill, 2081, with relevant stakeholders, including representatives of the Hotel Association Nepal.

The Industry and Commerce Committee and the Labor and Consumer Welfare Committee are scheduled to meet at 10:00 am to review complaints received by the respective committees.

Also at 10:00 am, the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee will hold discussions with organic fertilizer producers on ways to improve the production, storage, marketing and distribution of organic fertilizers. The meeting will also explore measures to gradually reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers while maintaining agricultural productivity.

The Infrastructure Development Committee, meeting at 10:00 am, will review the Bagmati Beautification Project being implemented through the empowered Bagmati Civilization Integrated Development Committee.

Meanwhile, the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee, scheduled for 11:00 am, will discuss the activities and functioning of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) with its officials.

The Education, Health and Information Technology Committee will meet at 10:00 am to discuss the National Forensic Science Laboratory (Establishment and Operation) Bill, 2081.

The Public Accounts Committee, also meeting at 10:00 am, will discuss the audit of foreign assistance received by Nepal.

The Legislative Management Committee will convene at 1:00 pm to discuss legislative issues with the president and executive director of the National Federation of Rural Municipalities Nepal.
