KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane has stated that there is no lack of coordination between his party and the government.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday night, Lamichhane emphasized that the party has adopted a policy of allowing the government to work independently.

Lamichhane argued that discussions, suggestions, and requests for clarification regarding government actions should not be misinterpreted as misunderstandings.

‘There is no lack of coordination. The only thing is that the party’s stance is that the government should be allowed to work freely,’ he said.

He clarified that his party does not support the past practice of keeping another person seated next to the prime minister to maintain government stability or party unity.

‘We are not in favor of that practice in politics, where the prime minister keeps another person in a chair next to them just to maintain government stability and party unity,’ Lamichhane stated.

He noted that it is natural for the party to seek clarification if questions arise regarding government decisions, adding that the party is not required to agree with every move the government makes.

Regarding sensitive matters like the reassignment of the Inspector General of Police, he said it is the government’s responsibility to justify its decisions when the time is right.

Lamichhane mentioned that the party will continue to provide oversight if improvements are needed in government operations, urging the public not to interpret this as a conflict between the party and the government.

He stressed the importance of strengthening state institutions such as the police, courts, Press Council, and the Human Rights Commission.

He also added that while institutional processes should be respected, there are mechanisms in place to correct any wrongdoing by these bodies.
