KATHMANDU: The National Planning Commission (NPC) and the National Statistics Office are launching a detailed study to evaluate the financial toll and GDP impact of Wednesday’s catastrophic Bhote Koshi flood in Rasuwa.
The flood devastated local infrastructure—destroying homes, roads, financial institutions, schools, and hotels—and crippled regional tourism around Gosainkunda.
Crucially, the disaster struck 15 hydropower projects, shutting down an estimated 431 MW of electricity generation and heavily damaging major facilities like Rasuwagadhi, Chilime, and Sanjen.
The NPC’s upcoming assessment aims to quantify total monetary losses to guide government relief packages and direct post-disaster reconstruction efforts.
