KATHMANDU: The third edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) begins today at the TU International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur. The opening match will feature defending champions Lumbini Lions facing off against last season’s runners-up, Sudurpashchim Royals. The match is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
The tournament, which runs until Nov. 21, features eight teams: Lumbini Lions, Sudurpashchim Royals, Biratnagar Kings, Chitwan Rhinos, Karnali Yaks, Janakpur Bolts, Pokhara Avengers, and Kathmandu Gorkhas. Starting Tuesday, the schedule will shift to two matches per day.

CAN treasurer Padam Khadka stated that the tournament is expected to generate a total revenue of Rs 1.5 billion. Prize money has also been increased for this season. The winner will receive Rs 15 million, while the runner-up will take home Rs 8 million. The third and fourth-placed teams will receive Rs 4 million and Rs 3 million, respectively. In previous editions, winners received Rs 10 million.
