One killed and 20 injured in monsoon-related disasters in 24 hours

KATHMANDU: Monsoon-related disasters claimed one life and injured 20 people across Nepal in the past 24 hours, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).

The authority said 34 disaster incidents were reported in 25 districts between 10:00 am on Friday and 10:00 am on Saturday. One person died due to a snakebite, while 20 others were injured in various incidents.

During the period, 14 cases of snakebite, 11 fire incidents, six landslides and three animal attacks were recorded. The incidents caused an estimated loss of Rs 2.725 million.
Two road sections were also obstructed, and 18 livestock were reported lost.

Meanwhile, the NDRRMA said that from April 14 this year until Saturday morning, a total of 4,053 disaster incidents had been recorded across the country. The disasters have resulted in 196 deaths, four people missing and 1,291 injuries.

A total of 5,188 families have been affected by disasters during the period, the authority added.
