KATHMANDU: Marking one year since the Gen Z movement, Gen Z Movement Nepal has demanded the immediate release of investigation reports and called on the government to ensure justice and accountability for those killed and injured during the protests.
In a statement, movement leader Ravi Kiran Hamal demanded that the report of the inquiry commission led by Gauri Bahadur Karki be made public and its recommendations implemented. He also called for the release of the National Human Rights Commission’s report on the movement.
The organization urged impartial investigation into the violence, arson, vandalism and damage to public and private property during the protests, and legal action against those found responsible.
It also demanded the release of youths arrested merely for participating in the movement if they were not involved in serious crimes, saying guilt must be determined through fair investigation and judicial process.
Hamal warned the government and Parliament to “get back on the right track”, saying public trust in democratic institutions would further erode if the movement’s demands and the sacrifices of those killed were ignored.
He said the movement was directed not against any individual or political party but against injustice, impunity, corruption, lack of transparency and violations of citizens’ rights.
The organization has also called for candlelight vigils across the country to commemorate those who lost their lives and reaffirm the movement’s spirit.
