A A+ A-

KATHMANDU: The opposition parties have urged the government to immediately summon a session of the Federal Parliament, accusing it of seeking to govern through ordinances and bypass the legislature.

The demand was made at a meeting of opposition parties convened by the Nepali Congress at its parliamentary party office in Singha Durbar on Monday.

After the meeting, Congress parliamentary party leader Bhishma Raj Angdembe said participants raised concerns over the Kaptanganj incident in Sunsari, the failure to make public a report on the home minister’s assets and the government’s alleged attempt to rule through ordinances.

The Nepali Communist Party leader Parmesh Hamal said opposition parties had agreed to press for an early parliamentary session to discuss issues concerning national sovereignty, public welfare, democracy and constitutional concerns, as well as disaster relief and reconstruction.

Representatives of the CPN (UML), Janata Samajbadi Party and Rastriya Prajatantra Party also attended the meeting.
