KANCHANPUR: A total of 5,022 vehicles faced action for violating traffic rules in Sudurpashchim Province during the month of Shrawan, generating Rs 43,63,500 in revenue, according to the Sudurpashchim Province Police Office.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Padam Bahadur Bista reported that during the same month, 223 vehicle accidents occurred, resulting in 15 fatalities and 324 injuries, with 329 vehicles involved.
Driver negligence was the leading cause, accounting for 181 accidents, while drunk driving caused nine, and others were attributed to animals, pedestrians, vehicle defects, weather, and road conditions.
SSP Bista noted that actions are regularly taken against those breaking traffic rules and overloading vehicles, alongside ongoing traffic awareness programs to minimize road accidents.
In addition to traffic enforcement, police seized smuggled goods worth Rs 1,69,57,782, recovered Rs 2,54,500 in fines from 24 vehicles involved in natural resource exploitation, and collected Rs 8,03,000 in revenue after seizing 714 cubic feet of illegally harvested timber. Actions against illegal livestock trade also raised Rs 1,26,000 in revenue.
