TAPLEJUNG: Pathibhara Yangwarak rural municipality has announced plans to replace all thatched roofs with corrugated zinc sheets.
The initiative is part of the citizen housing improvement program for the current fiscal year 2026/27.
Rural municipality chairman Keshar Subba stated that the program aims to support vulnerable families currently living under thatched or straw roofs. The local government issued a notice on Friday requesting eligible residents to submit their applications at their respective ward offices within 15 days.
According to Subba, priority will be given to families identified as extremely poor, as well as those from Dalit and marginalized communities, single women, and people with disabilities. The program is strictly intended for families who have not previously benefited from similar housing support schemes.
Applicants are required to provide a copy of the head of the household’s citizenship certificate, a land ownership document or a recommendation letter from the ward office, a photograph of the house showing the existing thatched roof, and a full list of family members.
