KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Balen Shah travelled to Bidur, Nuwakot, on Thursday morning to assess the situation in areas affected by the recent flooding of the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa.
The floods have inflicted significant damage on settlements and infrastructure along the river corridor. Shah left Kathmandu for the affected areas by road at around 9:30 a.m., accompanied by Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Sunil Lamsal.
The Prime Minister’s field visit comes as an all-party meeting continues in Parliament amid ongoing political discussions. Shah has chosen to personally assess the disaster response and coordinate efforts aimed at rescue, relief and recovery. He had earlier chaired a high-level meeting and directed government agencies to intensify their response to the disaster.
During Thursday’s visit, Shah is expected to inspect flood-hit communities in Bidur and nearby parts of Nuwakot. He will also hold discussions with local officials, elected representatives and security personnel on the damage caused by the floods, the distribution of relief and plans for reconstruction.
The Prime Minister has instructed the concerned authorities to prioritize the restoration of vital services and infrastructure, particularly damaged roads, bridges and electricity networks, while speeding up rehabilitation and reconstruction work in the affected areas.
