KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Balendra “Balen” Shah assured citizens that the government is deploying its full state apparatus for immediate rescue and relief operations following devastating floods across the country.
Addressing the nation in a social media update on Thursday, Prime Minister Shah detailed ongoing efforts coordinated alongside national agencies, non-governmental groups, and international partners.
Aerial rescue operations commenced early Thursday at 6:30 AM, with over 15 helicopter sorties conducted by mid-morning and additional aircraft placed on standby.
In a major development, a specialized operation led by the Nepali Army successfully rescued 116 individuals from Timure in Rasuwa district, including 95 Nepali and 21 Indian nationals.
An additional seven Nepali citizens were rescued from a trapped tunnel site.
The government is prioritizing the airlifting of critically ill individuals, elderly citizens, women, and children.
Essential relief supplies—including generators, portable mobile towers, medical supplies, tents, and heavy cutting machinery—are actively being dispatched to the affected zones.
To restore communications and basic care, temporary mobile charging setups, cellular networks, and a dedicated relief camp equipped with food and clean drinking water have been established in Nuwakot.
Drone surveys are in their final phase to gather real-time data for targeted operations.
Expressing gratitude to international partners and volunteers, Prime Minister Shah urged the public to remain patient and resilient as state mechanisms work around the clock.
