KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Balendra Shah has said the government is working continuously and in a planned manner to resolve the recent sensitive situation in Sunsari and other affected districts, ensure the safety of citizens, and strengthen social harmony.

During a meeting with ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmakers representing Madhesh Province at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar on Friday, Shah said all state security agencies have been mobilized with heightened vigilance. He urged the public to remain calm and avoid panic.

The prime minister said the government’s immediate priorities are reaching affected communities, guaranteeing their security, and conducting an impartial investigation into the incidents. He added that the government has adopted a multi-pronged strategy to maintain law and order and prevent the situation from escalating further.

Shah also called on lawmakers to return confidently to their constituencies and serve as a strong bridge between citizens and the state. He reminded them that the true responsibility of elected representatives is to stand with people in times of crisis and provide support at their doorsteps.

Responding positively to the prime minister’s appeal, the lawmakers pledged to immediately travel to their respective constituencies. They also said Shah’s address to the nation on Thursday had instilled confidence, reassurance and a positive message among citizens across the country, particularly in the affected areas.

The lawmakers recommended continuing intensive dialogue with religious leaders from all communities, civil society representatives, intellectuals and local political parties to promote long-term peace, communal harmony and mutual trust.

They also stressed the need for sustained public messaging to promote religious and social harmony in the affected and surrounding areas, while calling for local awareness campaigns to protect young people from misinformation and rumours circulating on social media.
