KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) Balendra Shah has said that the Nepal Army, Armed Police Force (APF) and Nepal Police have been deployed for rescue and relief operations following severe flooding in Rasuwa.
According to Shah, additional security personnel and other human resources have been mobilized from neighboring districts to support operations in the affected areas.
Shah said the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority has been activated to coordinate the response. Coordination is also underway with medical teams, scouts and the Red Cross, while additional ambulances and medical personnel are being sent to the affected areas.
In a social media post, the prime minister outlined six measures being taken in response to the disaster:
Security forces deployed: The Nepal Army, APF and Nepal Police have been mobilized for rescue and relief operations. Additional personnel have been brought in from other districts to reinforce the response.
Emergency response intensified: The Disaster Management Authority has been activated, with response efforts being coordinated with medical teams, scouts and the Red Cross. Additional ambulances and medical personnel are being deployed to affected areas.
Residents urged to relocate: Chief district officers have been instructed to immediately move people living in low-lying and riverside areas to safer locations. Residents who have received alerts via SMS or telephone have also been urged to move to safety.
Helicopters kept on standby: All available helicopters have been placed on standby for potential rescue and relief operations. Private helicopter companies have also been asked to keep their helicopters ready.
High-level meeting convened: A high-level meeting has been called to assess the situation and determine further measures.
Public urged to remain safe: Shah has urged people to remain in safe locations and, if they have lost contact with relatives, wait for updates from rescue agencies. He said the public can call 1234 for information and assistance.
