RUPANDEHI: Police in Rupandehi have arrested four people who had been on the run after being convicted by the courts and sentenced to prison terms and fines.
Superintendent of Police Janak Bahadur Shahi said the arrests were made during a special operation aimed at locating convicted individuals who had failed to serve their sentences.
Bishal Tharu of Khungaun, Suddhodhan Rural Municipality-7, was arrested in connection with a theft case in which he had been sentenced to two months and four days in jail.
Ramdaras Lohar of Belhiya, Suddhodhan Rural Municipality-6, was taken into custody in a rape case. The court had ordered him to serve one year, five months and six days in prison and pay a fine of Rs 15,000.
Ganesh Mallah of Chhapiya, Siyari Rural Municipality-8, was also arrested after being convicted in a theft case and sentenced to two months’ imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000.
Basudev Kewat, alias Sundar Kewat, of Razad, Suddhodhan Rural Municipality-5, was arrested in the same case. He had been sentenced to two months and three days in prison and fined Rs 6,000.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Krishna Kumar Chand said the arrested convicts have been produced before the concerned court.
Police said operations to trace and arrest other absconding convicts will continue to ensure court decisions are fully enforced.
