Police resignations outpace mandatory retirements in Nepal

KATHMANDU: More police personnel resigned from the Nepal Police than retired under the mandatory retirement system during the last fiscal year, according to official data.

A total of 1,264 police personnel of various ranks resigned from service in the fiscal year 2025/26 (2082/83 BS), while 681 personnel retired upon reaching the mandatory retirement age.

Speaking at a press conference at the Nepal Police Headquarters in Naxal on Friday, central spokesperson Abi Narayan Kafle said that more than 1,200 officers and personnel had resigned over the past year.

He also shared other key personnel statistics for the fiscal year. According to the Nepal Police, 26,415 personnel were transferred to different postings, 5,027 personnel received promotions, and 2,488 new recruits were appointed and assigned to duty stations.
