KATHMANDU: The Nepal Electricity Authority has estimated that the peak demand of power on the day of Laxmi Puja this year would be around 1,700 megawatts.

The NEA stated that it would ensure an adequate supply of electricity on the day of Laxmi Puja. Executive Director of the NEA, Dirghayu Kumar Shrestha, said power produced in the country is sufficient to meet the estimated demand of the electricity on the day of Laxmi Puja.

During the period, electricity generation is projected to reach around 2,500 megawatts. He claimed that the sufficient amount of electricity would be available to make power supply smooth as power production exceeds than domestic demand.

The NEA has made special preparation to ensure reliable, regular and quality power supply to consumers on the occasion of Tihar and Chhath festival.

Chiefs of all concerned offices have been directed to make all necessary preparation to avoid any disruption in power supply during festivals, Shrestha added.

The NEA also asked the office chiefs to regularly pick up telephone calls received at no-light service to address the complaints about power supply.
