KATHMANDU: Nepali Communist Party (CPN) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” has called for an investigation into the Sunsari incident and questioned whether security forces had to open fire during the unrest.

Addressing Thursday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Prachanda referred to the violence that occurred in Kaptaanganj, Sunsari, during a dispute related to a Bolbam religious procession.

“The dispute that arose during the Bolbam religious procession in Kaptaanganj escalated into a tragic incident. There is widespread concern that it could take the form of a larger communal conflict,” he said.

He questioned the role of the security agencies during the incident and asked whether the situation had genuinely required firing at that level.

“What was the role of the security agencies in the course of this incident? Was there really a situation that necessitated firing at that level or not?” Prachanda asked.
He demanded a detailed study of all aspects of the incident and called on the government to bring the truth to light through a comprehensive investigation.
