KATHMANDU: Nepal Communist Party coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has questioned the political direction and long-term stability of Prime Minister Balendra Shah ‘Balen’s’ government, saying it cannot continue in its current form.

Speaking to parliamentary affairs journalists at the NCP parliamentary office in Singha Durbar on Monday, Prachanda described the government as “immature” and lacking a clear political and ideological direction.

He compared the government to “a ship that has lost its compass in the sea,” arguing that it would not be able to move forward for long under its current approach.

Prachanda rejected speculation about a specific date for the government’s collapse, however, describing claims that it would fall after Dashain-Tihar or on a particular date as speculative and baseless.

He also claimed that internal contradictions within the ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) were becoming increasingly visible.

Prachanda further argued that the initial political momentum behind the RSP had begun to weaken after roughly four months in government. He claimed that people who had shifted toward the new political force were increasingly reconsidering their choice.

Referring to his recent visits to all seven provinces, Prachanda said he had observed a change in public political sentiment, with some voters who had supported newer political forces appearing to consider a return to established political parties.

He particularly claimed that support for the RSP had weakened in Madhesh, saying some people there had begun to feel they had chosen the wrong political alternative.
