KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Balendra Shah said Nepal is receiving support from the international community for search and rescue operations in areas affected by the Bhotekoshi floods.
Shah shared an update on Saturday evening on the government’s ongoing search, rescue and relief efforts, continuing his practice of providing daily updates through social media.
According to Shah, 16 helicopters operated by the Nepal Army and the private sector have so far conducted 236 flights to support rescue operations in the affected areas.
A total of 18,708 security personnel from the Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force have been deployed, he said.
Shah said the number of security personnel deployed for rescue operations is being increased daily and additional helicopters have been kept on standby. However, adverse weather and difficult geographical conditions have limited the number of flights that can be conducted at a time.
“Taking into account the suggestions and complaints we have received, the number of security personnel being deployed to the affected areas is being increased every day, while additional helicopters have been kept on standby,” Shah said.
He added that the government is also receiving assistance from the international community as needed during search and rescue operations.
“During the rescue operations, we are also receiving support from the international community as required,” Shah said.
