Quality regulation imperative for improving capital market: Finance Minister Wagle

A A+ A-

KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle has said the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) should ensure quality regulation for sustainable development of capital market.

SEBON leadership can work by maintaining high morale and transparency that keeps investors’ interest in centre, Finance Minister Dr Wagle said, adding that the appointment of new leadership at SEBON has created positive impact in the capital market.

According to the Minister, SEBON has equally important role as that of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB). He urged SEBON to take onboard all stakeholders while formulating related laws and regulation. Time has come for making market further convincing and competitive by assuring security of the investors’ property, Dr Wagle stressed.

On the occasion, SEBON chair Dr Gopal Bhatta informed that a ‘blue print’ of capital market was prepared and implementation forwarded accordingly. Even a new directive will be prepared within this month (mid-August) on IPO release in the primary and secondary markets, intra-day transaction, margin lending and short selling after holding discussion with stakeholders.

A high level team led by Minister Dr Wagle had an inspection visit to SEBON on Monday.
