KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane held discussions with leaders of religious communities on Friday with the aim of preserving social harmony following incidents of religious violence.

The meeting was attended by Ram Chandra Tiwari, General Secretary of the World Hindu Federation, Secretariat Member Rajuraj Phuyal, and Muslim religious leaders Maulana Narul Hussain and Maulana Mohammad Khalid.

After the discussion, the participants joined hands and shook hands in front of Lamichhane, sending a message of unity and communal harmony.
Lamichhane urged both religious organizations to issue a joint statement from the meeting itself.

“Let us prepare it here and send the message from here,” he said. “Let us draft it together. If you agree, it does not matter who gets the credit. We are not in a race to claim credit. I certainly am not. We are here to fulfill our responsibility.”

He stressed that all communities must stand united to protect citizens’ lives and property.
“Even a slight delay could lead to further destruction,” Lamichhane said. “Our brothers and relatives are fighting, surrounded, and suffering. Whoever may have ignited this fire and for whatever purpose, it is our own homes that will be burned by it. The flames may start elsewhere, but they will eventually reach us.”
