KATHMANDU: The planned visit to China by Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane has been postponed until the second week of September.

Lamichhane was originally scheduled to travel to China in the second week of August. However, sources said the trip was deferred due to internal preparations and other considerations.

A senior government official said Lamichhane is also expected to visit Mansarovar in Tibet during his China trip. There had previously been uncertainty over whether the religious and tourist site would be included in his itinerary.

During the visit, Lamichhane is expected to hold meetings with leaders of the Chinese Communist Party and senior government officials. However, sources said there are currently no plans for him to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Lamichhane recently returned from New Delhi, where he met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to sources at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he is also working to arrange a meeting with senior Chinese leaders.
