KATHMANDU: The death toll and number of missing people continue to rise following the sudden flooding of the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa on Wednesday morning, with 389 bodies recovered and 977 people reported missing, according to the latest official update.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) said the recovered bodies were found in several districts. Of the total, 33 were recovered in Dhading, 28 in Nuwakot, 17 in Rasuwa, 32 in Gorkha, including unidentified human remains, 87 in Nawalparasi East, 27 in Nawalparasi West, 137 in Chitwan and 28 in Tanahun.
The 977 people reported missing include 28 Nepal Police personnel, 45 Nepali Army personnel, 13 Armed Police Force personnel, four employees of the Immigration Office and 15 employees of the Customs Office.
The missing-person list also comprises 161 people from Rasuwa and 66 from Makawanpur, based on information provided by the respective District Emergency Operations Centres (DEOCs). It further includes 517 foreign nationals, 127 Nepali citizens residing abroad who were visiting Nepal at the time, and one person from Nuwakot, according to the available DEOC records.
