Recommendations made to declare Myagdi as disaster-hit district

MYAGDI: Recommendations have been made to declare Myagdi district as disaster-hit district.

The flood and landslide occurred following continuous rainfall from September 24-27 have caused physical and human losses in the district.

A meeting of the District Disaster Management Committee held on Tuesday decided to recommend to the Home Ministry to declare Myagdi as disaster-hit district and give priority to reconstruction and rehabilitation activities, shared Chief District Officer Ganesh Gaire.

Seven people lost their lives, two went missing as well as there was huge losses in physical infrastructures in Myagdi in the incidents of natural disaster. So recommendation was made to declare it as disaster-hit district, he added.

Meanwhile, teams comprising people’s representatives of local levels, employees and security personnel have been mobilized from Tuesday to collect the details of damages caused in physical infrastructures, private housings, agriculture, livestock sectors by landslide, flood in the district.

Assistant Chief District Officer Kul Prasad Acharya mentioned that along with rescue and relief task, collection of details of losses has been started in all six local levels.

He added that as per the details received so far, 23 houses suffered complete damages in Beni municipality, three in Raghuganga, 18 in Mangala, one in Malika, two in Annapurna and one in Dhaulagiri.

Similarly, 23 houses are at risk in Beni, 47 houses in Raghuganga, four in Mangala, three in Malika and 23 in Dhaulagiri.

As per the details received till Tuesday, 21 cowsheds damaged in Beni, 26 in Raghuganga, eight in Mangala and one in Annapurna while 20 cattle died in the disaster across the district.

One hundred nine people were rescued by helicopter and they have been kept at temporary shelters. Total 70 Nepal Army personnel, 251 Nepal Police personnel and 60 Armed Police Force Nepal personnel were mobilized in Myagdi after disaster.

All roads linking other districts and rural areas from Beni have been blocked due to landslide and flood as well as power supply and communication services have also been disrupted in all areas except the district headquarters.

The district headquarters, Beni, has been facing drinking water problem.
