NEPALGUNJ: The Labour and Employment Office in Nepalgunj has cancelled the registration of 19 enterprise-level trade unions across Banke and Dang districts.

The registrations were revoked after the unions failed to renew their status within the prescribed timeframe.

Office Chief Pintu Kumar Rajak stated that the action was taken in accordance with Section 17 of the Trade Union Act, 2049, and Rule 9 of the Trade Union Regulations, 2050, as the unions did not apply for renewal even after the deadline and the period for additional fees. The affected unions include those at Shakti Polyplate Pvt Ltd, Laxmi Plastic Pvt Ltd, Bindrawasini Security Pvt Ltd, Rajlaxmi Gas Industries Pvt Ltd, Manakamana Gas Industry, Manakamana Footwear Industries Pvt Ltd, Gyan Food Products Pvt Ltd, Nepal Republic Media Pvt Ltd, Halwal Group Five Security Pvt Ltd, KTP Group Pvt Ltd, Bidushi Viji and Social Pvt Ltd, Happy Hour Pvt Ltd, Hotel Diamond Palace Pvt Ltd, Bheri Gas Industry, and Karnali Distillery Pvt Ltd in Banke. Furthermore, the registrations for unions at Nepal Sanskrit University, Ghorahi Cement Industries Pvt Ltd, and Tulsipur Transport Pvt Ltd in Dang were also cancelled.

The office has intensified efforts to address labour disputes and enforce labour laws. In the previous fiscal year, the office resolved 30 out of 40 complaints related to workers’ rights and labour disputes. Legal processes are underway for the remaining cases.

Additionally, out of 21 ongoing cases, including those carried over from the previous fiscal year, about half have been settled, with the remainder currently in the resolution process.

To protect workers’ fundamental rights and ensure effective implementation of labour laws, the office conducted inspections of over 300 establishments within its jurisdiction last fiscal year.

During these inspections, the office monitored the implementation of minimum wages, the use of child labour, and general compliance with labour regulations, according to Chief Rajak.
