KATHMANDU: Relief materials have been provided to the families at the risk located at Dandagaun of Uttargaya rural municipality-2 in the Bhotekoshi flood-affected Rasuwa district.
Sixty households affected from Bhotekoshi flood were provided with relief materials through Integrated Humanitarian and Early Recovery Programme with the support of an organization, Start Fund Nepal, shared Executive Director of Rural-Oriented Youth Movement (ROYM) Nepal, Lubh Raj Neupane.
He mentioned that the relief materials were distributed with an objective of providing immediate assistance to the families with single woman affected from flood and at high risk.
Goods needed for winter season as well as drinking water and sanitation related materials were provided as the relief in the first phase, added Neupane.
Similarly, relief materials would also be distributed at ward no 1 and 5 of the same rural municipality next week. Community kitchen is being operation at three locations in Rasuwa and Nuwakot for the past one month with the financial support of UN Women where ROYM Nepal is facilitating it.
The flood-affected families and displace families have been regularly providing with breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner every day through community kitchen, mentioned Administrative and Financial Assistance of ROYM Nepal, Goma Bista.
Bista stated that opportunity of employment and work has also been provided to disaster hit families at the community kitchens operating in coordination with ward offices.
ROYM Nepal plans to provide financial assistance to at least 300 households with the objective of supporting the livelihood of the flood-affected families.
According to him, preparations are underway to distribute blankets, quilts, thermals, and also thermoses and hot water bags to a thousand households ahead of the winter season.
“Financial support will also be provided to affected families to earn a living,” he said. The organization stated that through relief, employment, and livelihood assistance, families affected by the disaster are expected to get immediate income opportunities in difficult situations, making daily life easier.
Anup Khanal, the management coordinator of ROYM Nepal, said that the organization has also been carrying out the repair work of water supply pipelines damaged due to the flood in Bidur Municipality of Nuwakot and Uttargaya Rural Municipality of Rasuwa.
Tuku Subedi, the ward chairperson of Dandagaun in Uttargaya Rural Municipality-2, said that the relief and assistance provided during the disaster have significantly helped the affected community in their daily lives. She also urged that support and facilitation should continue in the future according to the needs and conditions of the affected community.
It has been reported that the RAIN (Resilience, Adaptation, and Inclusion in Nepal) programme is being carried out with support from Start Fund N-Nepal through UK Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO).
The programme is being implemented under the leadership of the NGO, ASAMAN Nepal, in collaboration with ROYM Nepal, LACCOS, and Welthungerhilfe (WHH), and under the guidance of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).
Those organizations are running programmes for drinking water and sanitation, health, education, child protection, psychosocial support, nutrition, and livelihood restoration in the flood-affected areas.
