KATHMANDU: Rescue operations for injured and at-risk residents affected by the devastating Bhotekoshi River flood in Rasuwa began early Thursday using 15 helicopters operated by the Nepali Army and private-sector companies.
According to Home Ministry spokesperson Anand Kafle, a meeting of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority held late Wednesday decided to establish temporary treatment camps at Dhunche in Rasuwa and the Nepali Army barracks in Bidur, Nuwakot.
Injured people will first be evacuated to these camps for treatment, while those in critical condition will be airlifted directly to Kathmandu. Rescue and treatment will be prioritized based on the severity of injuries, Kafle said.
Meanwhile, relief materials are being transported by road to the Nepali Army barracks in Bidur for distribution to flood-affected communities.
The government has stepped up rescue, medical and relief operations as authorities assess the scale of damage caused by the sudden flooding.
