KATHMANDU: The District Administration Office in Kanchanpur has issued a notice urging residents living along the Mahakali river basin to remain alert due to a potential rise in water levels.
The alert follows an announcement regarding silt clearance work at the Dhauliganga hydroelectric project in Dharchula, India.
Assistant Chief District Officer Mohan Chandra Joshi stated that the dam gates will be opened to facilitate the maintenance work, which is scheduled to take place from Saturday to Monday. The administration warned that water levels in the Mahakali river are expected to rise during this period.
The notice specifies that the silt clearance will last for 84 hours, spanning from 1:00 a.m. on Saturday until 1:00 a.m. on Monday.
Residents in the coastal areas have been advised to exercise caution and maintain vigilance as the river flow could fluctuate significantly during this time.
