KATHMANDU: The first-look poster and official teaser of Road to Everest, a 50-minute documentary following a journey from sea level to the summit of Mount Everest, have been released.

Directed by Nirmal Shrestha, the film explores courage, perseverance, mountaineering risks and the growing impact of climate change on the Himalayas. It follows a man in his 50s as he pursues his lifelong dream of climbing Everest.

The documentary features renowned mountaineers Phurba Tenzing Sherpa, who has summited Everest 18 times, and Nima Gyalzen Sherpa, who has climbed Everest 10 times and completed all 14 of the world’s 8,000-meter peaks. Binod Gurung, Suraj Gurung and Shrestha also feature in the film.

The production team said the documentary will premiere in Kathmandu on August 22, 2026, followed by its international premiere in Hong Kong on September 13. It will subsequently be screened across Nepal and at international film festivals and cinemas.

Written by Santosh Acharya and Shrestha and narrated by Bhusan Dahal, the documentary was produced over more than two years. The filmmakers say it uses authentic footage throughout, without artificial or computer-generated visuals.

Produced by the We Will Rise Foundation, Road to Everest aims to promote Nepal’s tourism while raising awareness of the environmental challenges facing the Himalayas.
