KATHMANDU: President Ramchandra Paudel said that the role played by community radio in promoting social harmony, national unity, reconciliation, and inclusive democracy has become a subject of study not only in Nepal but worldwide.
President Paudel said so during a meeting with the office-bearers of the Asia Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) and the Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (ACORAB) at Sheetal Niwas on Wednesday.
On the occasion, President Paudel opined that community radio has become a powerful medium for preserving the languages and cultures of different communities, as well as providing education, information, and entertainment to citizens.
“Since their establishment, community radios in Nepal have played an important role in various stages of political, social, and cultural changes,” the President said, adding that they have not only represented Nepal’s multilingual, multicultural, and diverse society but also made a significant contribution to the preservation and promotion of endangered languages and cultures.
The Head of State mentioned that in the present age, news is on mobile phones, podcasts, social media, digital platforms, and is even reaching new mediums created and distributed by artificial intelligence.
