KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairman Rajendra Lingden has initiated the process to remove three party ministers from the Bagmati provincial government for defying the party’s central directive.
Lingden has formally written to the Election Commission and the Bagmati Provincial Assembly Secretariat, recommending action against ministers Raju Bista, Rajendra Prajapati and Gir Bahadur Tamang. The three joined the provincial government despite the party leadership’s decision against their participation.
According to the RPP, disciplinary proceedings were launched after the ministers failed to furnish explanations sought by the party. The party has also taken action against its Bagmati provincial parliamentary party leader, Uddhav Thapa.
The development comes as Chief Minister Kiran Thapa is scheduled to seek a vote of confidence in the provincial assembly today. The stability of his government has been thrown into doubt by the internal divisions within the RPP.
The support of two RPP provincial assembly members is expected to be decisive in determining whether Thapa’s government secures the confidence vote.
