RPP’s Rabindra Mishra urges Rajesh Hamal to take a clear stand in favor of the monarchy

KATHMANDU: Former senior vice-chairman of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Rabindra Mishra, has urged veteran actor Rajesh Hamal to openly support the constitutional monarchy, arguing that the country can no longer afford silence on issues of national importance.

Mishra made the appeal in response to a recent political comment posted by Hamal on social media.
He said Hamal’s remarks reflected the same concern that underpins his own agenda of “the nation above ideology.” Referring to Hamal’s use of phrases such as “changed geopolitics,” “strategic sensitivity,” and “national interest,” Mishra argued that the time has passed for remaining silent or merely expressing idealistic wishes.

Comparing Nepal’s current condition to “a worn-out knitted sweater,” Mishra warned that the country could unravel at any point. Citing Ukraine as an example, he said Nepal had been steadily
deteriorating despite repeated assurances that the situation would be managed.

“We have been continuously unraveling while claiming we can handle it. The people of Ukraine also did not think their country would be devastated within five years,” Mishra wrote.

He urged Hamal to speak clearly without worrying about either praise or criticism and even suggested a possible public statement. According to Mishra, Hamal should say that “for Nepal’s long-term interests and for strengthening democracy, it is essential to provide space for the monarchy within the framework of democracy.”

Mishra also noted that constitutional expert Dr. Bipin Adhikari and actress Manisha Koirala had recently expressed clear views on the monarchy and nationalism.
Concluding his remarks, Mishra said Nepal was not progressing but merely “dragging itself forward.” He appealed to Hamal to recognize the seriousness of the national crisis and to have the courage to take a clear position in support of the monarchy.
