KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is convening its central committee meeting today, with preparations for the upcoming local elections and internal organizational matters high on the agenda.

The meeting has been scheduled for 11 am at the party’s central office in Ghantighar, Banasthali. General Secretary Bipin Kumar Acharya called the meeting at the direction of party Chair Rabi Lamichhane.

The committee is expected to endorse a framework for selecting candidates for the 2083 BS local elections. Discussions will focus on establishing the procedures and criteria that will guide the candidate selection process.

The meeting will also consider preparations for a policy document on the ‘Right to Recall’, which would provide voters with a mechanism to seek the removal of elected representatives. The party intends to develop the necessary legal and political framework for putting the provision into practice.

Several organizational appointments are also expected to be discussed, including the nomination of central committee members and office-bearers, selection of secretariat members, and allocation of responsibilities among department heads. The party will also consider forming a central candidate selection committee for the local elections and appointing its members.

The RSP plans to organize a nationwide training and orientation campaign led by central committee members and lawmakers. The programme will aim to familiarize local-level party cadres with the candidate selection process.

The meeting is also expected to decide on the publication of a monthly digital magazine, ‘Swatantra’, to communicate the party’s official positions, activities and other updates.
