KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairman Rabi Lamichhane is set to visit China later this month of Sawan (August second week), where he is scheduled to hold high-level meetings, including talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, according to party sources.

Lamichhane will travel to Beijing with a four-member delegation comprising senior party leaders and lawmakers. While the party has confirmed the visit, it has not publicly disclosed the identities of the other delegation members.

According to sources close to Lamichhane, the visit is intended to engage Chinese leaders on the evolving political situation in Nepal following the March 05 general election and to help foster confidence and strengthen political dialogue between the two countries.

In addition to meeting Wang Yi, Lamichhane is expected to hold discussions with other senior Chinese government officials, although their identities have not yet been made public. The talks are expected to focus on Nepal-China relations and broader bilateral cooperation.

The visit comes at a time when communication between Nepal’s new government and its two immediate neighbors, China and India, has remained limited.

“Chairman Lamichhane’s visit to Beijing has been finalized and will take place within this month. The four-member delegation has already been confirmed, although the names of the accompanying members have not been disclosed,” a source said.

Sources also said no representatives of the Nepal government are expected to participate in Lamichhane’s meetings with Chinese officials, making the visit a party-level diplomatic engagement rather than an official state mission.
