KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Yagyamani Nyaupane stated that his party is a key stakeholder in the constitution.

Speaking at an event held in Kathmandu on the occasion of Constitution Day, Nyaupane claimed that the emergence of the RSP was driven by the objective of implementing the constitution and taking its values to the citizen level.

Recalling that his party had pressured the constitution-making process from the streets, he asserted that the RSP remains committed to protecting the essence of the constitution if it is attacked.

Nyaupane accused older political parties of failing to implement the system according to the spirit of the constitution and noted that the RSP is playing the role of a constructive ruling party.

“The right to question is granted by the constitution, and this is democracy,” Nyaupane said. “If anyone suppresses the right to question, it will lead to autocracy.”

He clarified that even while being part of the government, the party would continue to monitor and question any actions contrary to the constitution.

He added that RSP lawmakers do not shy away from questioning and are working to make parliament an effective institution for the protection of democracy, the rule of law, and human rights.

He further alleged that older parties have misused the principles of inclusion and proportional representation. “By introducing the proportional representation system, the work was done to promote only individuals like Arzu Deuba and Manju Khand,” he remarked. Nyaupane reiterated that while their names might not be on the document released during the promulgation of the constitution, the main role in bringing and protecting it belongs to the citizens, and the RSP remains committed to its full implementation and preservation.
