KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) General Secretary Bipin Kumar Acharya has objected to a video of Garima Chaudhary’s parents expressing gratitude being recorded at the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Speaking at Monday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Acharya said such videos involving the parents of a deceased victim should not be recorded at a government ministry, while statements made by suspects during medical examinations should not be made public.
“I have not spoken much about what happened in the Garima murder case. But what we all need to reflect on is: What kind of society are we creating? A society where a video of the deceased’s parents expressing gratitude is recorded at a ministry, and statements made by an accused while undergoing a medical examination are publicly released. This must stop,” he said.
Three-year-old Garima Chaudhary of Jitpur Simara Sub-Metropolitan City-1 went missing from her home on the morning of July 16. It was later revealed that she had been raped and murdered. A video of the person arrested on suspicion of involvement in Garima’s murder, in which he allegedly describes the incident, has also been made public.
