KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker KP Khanal, who has previously drawn criticism over his public remarks, has once again found himself at the center of controversy after a video showing him confronting a constituent went viral on social media.

The video appears to show Khanal responding aggressively to a question raised by a member of the public during an interaction with local residents. While the exact subject of the exchange is not clear from the footage, the lawmaker is seen demanding evidence from the questioner and issuing what critics have described as a threatening response.

In the video, Khanal can be heard saying: “Who said that? Do you have proof? I’ll have you arrested, and then you’ll know. Who said it? Who said it? And you’ve even made this kind of person a member?”

Following his remarks, several individuals believed to be his supporters are seen confronting the person who raised the question. Khanal is then heard saying, “How can you be so irresponsible toward such a position?”

Although the full context of the exchange remains unclear, the footage has sparked widespread criticism online, with many accusing the lawmaker of responding harshly to a constituent exercising the right to question an elected representative.

This is not the first time Khanal has faced backlash over his public statements.

In an earlier public address, he made controversial remarks directed at provincial lawmakers and local government representatives in his constituency, suggesting they should focus on local infrastructure projects while emphasizing the role of a federal lawmaker.

Referring to local representatives, Khanal said they should have told voters, “You voted for the bell once-that was your mistake. Next time vote for us, and we’ll pave your roads,” rather than questioning why people had supported the RSP in the election.

Those remarks, along with the newly surfaced video, have circulated widely across social media platforms, prompting renewed criticism of Khanal’s public conduct and communication style. Neither Khanal nor the RSP had publicly responded to the latest controversy at the time of publication.
