KATHMANDU: The historic Rudrayani temple in Khokana, Lalitpur, has been fully restored. The idol of the goddess Rudrayani was reinstalled in the temple on Sunday, 11 years after the devastating earthquake of 2015.
The reconstruction of the temple, which was severely damaged during the earthquake, officially commenced in 2020. The total cost of the restoration project amounted to Rs 51.3 million. Following the completion of the construction work, the deity was ceremonially reinstalled according to religious rites.
Khokana is a Newar settlement known for its historical, cultural, and religious significance. The local festivals, traditions, and heritage sites are central to the identity of the community. The Rudrayani temple remains a vital part of the religious and cultural life of Khokana. With the completion of the reconstruction and the reinstallation of the idol, the temple has resumed its traditional religious function for the local community.
