KATHMANDU: Authorities in Salyan have decided to close all roads in the district during nighttime due to increased risks of landslides, falling rocks, and collapsed trees and electricity poles caused by continuous rain and strong winds.
The District Administration Office of Salyan issued a notice stating that all roads will remain closed from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. between Sept. 26 and Sept. 28.
Assistant Chief District Officer Ananda Bista stated that the Luham-Kapurkot-Tulsipur section of the Rapti Highway will also remain closed during the daytime on Sept. 27. The administration has urged the public to avoid using roads during these periods to prevent potential human and physical casualties caused by hazardous conditions.
Meanwhile, electricity services in the district, which have been interrupted since Friday night, remained non-functional throughout Saturday despite repair efforts. Naresh Rawal, chief of the Nepal Electricity Authority’s Salyan distribution center, reported that the 33 kV transmission line sustained significant damage, particularly in the Luham-Aringalefedi section, where fallen trees destroyed infrastructure.
Strong winds on Saturday morning also caused damage to a house in Chhatreshwori Rural Municipality-2, Terchikharka. A pine tree fell onto the house of local resident Ganesh Pun Magar, resulting in property damage, although no human casualties were reported. Reports of damage to vegetable crops, paddy fields, and other infrastructure are emerging from various parts of the district, though full details are still being assessed.
