KATHMANDU: The supreme court has issued a show-cause notice to the government regarding a writ petition filed over the operations, management, and regulation of the Salt Trading Corporation. A single bench of judge Nripadhwaj Niraula issued the order on Thursday.
The writ, filed by Bheshraj Luintel against the office of the prime minister and council of ministers, claims that legal issues surrounding the corporation’s management have remained unresolved for a long time. Luintel stated that although the government should hold a 90 percent stake in the corporation, it is currently being operated under individual interests. He has petitioned the court to bring the corporation under full government control.
The petitioner requested the court to address the issues raised in the writ by considering the facts mentioned in various documents. However, the court declined to issue an interim order, stating that there was no immediate requirement for one at this stage.
The bench observed that the matters raised in the petition require addressing through final hearings and has ordered the defendants to submit a written response within 15 days.
