KATHMANDU: The Nepal Securities Board (SEBON) has formed two task forces to support the implementation of its capital market reform agenda, focusing on improving both the primary and secondary markets.

The two seven-member committees were constituted on Monday to recommend regulatory and operational reforms aimed at making Nepal’s capital market more transparent, efficient and investor-friendly.

The primary market task force, led by Executive Director Binay Dev Acharya, will review policies related to IPOs, book building, merchant bankers, digital IPO systems, pricing mechanisms, anchor investors, institutional investors and post-listing monitoring.

Meanwhile, the secondary market task force, headed by Executive Director Rupesh KC, will oversee reforms including margin lending, intraday trading, securities lending and borrowing, and covered short selling. The panel will also recommend the legal and technical frameworks needed to introduce these services in phases.

According to SEBON, the task forces include representatives from the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE), CDS and Clearing Ltd., the Merchant Bankers Association of Nepal, the Stock Brokers Association of Nepal and the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI). They may also consult experts and stakeholders as needed during the reform process.
