SUNSARI: A second person injured in the violent clash that erupted in Sunsari on Sunday night has died while undergoing treatment, taking the death toll to two.

The deceased has been identified as Om Prakash Mehta, who succumbed to his injuries during treatment, according to Devanganj Rural Municipality Chairperson Bechan Prasad Mehta, who confirmed the development to Shilapatra.

With his death, the number of fatalities from the incident has risen to two. Earlier on Monday morning, another injured victim also died while receiving treatment. According to Chairperson Mehta, both of the deceased shared the same name, Om Prakash Mehta.

The clash broke out on Sunday night between two groups in Kaptanganj, Ward No. 3 of Devanganj Rural Municipality in Sunsari district. Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force opened fire in an attempt to bring the situation under control.

Police firing left nine people injured, while around 15 security personnel were also hurt during the confrontation. The injured are currently receiving treatment at various hospitals across Sunsari.
