BIRGUNJ: Police have arrested seven people on charges of stealing petrol from a fuel tanker and selling it illegally in Birgunj.
Those arrested include 55-year-old Sunain Miya of Birgunj Metropolitan City-3, 23-year-old Aslam Hawari of Ward No. 15, 21-year-old Rafiq Miya of Ward No. 11, and 20-year-old Sandesh Rana Magar of Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City-11.
Also arrested were 46-year-old Keshar Ram Sunar of Hetauda-10, 50-year-old Mand Singh Lama of Hetauda-14, and 27-year-old Umesh Rana Magar.
According to police, the group had been illegally siphoning petroleum products from tankers that had entered Nepal through the Integrated Check Post (ICP) in Birgunj after customs clearance and then selling the stolen fuel.
Police said the accused stole petrol from tanker No. Na 7 Kha 1539 at Saudagar Oil Center on the Birgunj-14 bypass road at around 5:10 pm on Thursday. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
