KATHMANDU: Nepal Police has issued a comprehensive travel advisory updating the operational status of major highways across the country, as heavy rainfall, river erosion, and landslides continue to disrupt vehicular movement in multiple districts.
According to the latest police update released Saturday, key arterial routes—including the Prithvi Highway, Pasang Lhamu Highway, Arniko Highway, and Karnali Highway—face partial closures or complete blockages due to severe weather-induced damages.
In Dhading, a section of the Prithvi Highway at Krishna Bhir in Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-7 collapsed into the Trishuli River on August 30, entirely halting traffic.
Consequently, authorities in Chitwan have implemented intermittent two-hour closures along the Narayangadh-Muglin road section at Tuin Khola to manage traffic flow while emergency roadwork continues.
Significant blockages have also disrupted trade and transit corridors connecting to China.
In Rasuwa, extensive river erosion and devastating flooding along the Trishuli River completely destroyed major stretches of the Pasang Lhamu Highway near Khalte and the Rasuwagadhi border point.
Travelers heading toward Syabrubesi are advised to use a single-lane dirt track detour via Tokha-Chhahare, Bidur, and Dunche.
Similarly, in Sindhupalchok, the Arniko Highway remains completely blocked following a road collapse at Ghattekhola in Bhote Koshi Rural Municipality-2 on September 10.
Meanwhile, transport authorities and local security teams have enforced revised schedules and weight restrictions on operational routes.
Along the BP Highway, heavy cargo vehicles up to 10 tons are restricted to night travel (7:00 PM to 5:00 AM) between Khurkot and Katunje Besi, while passenger vehicles may operate during daytime hours.
In Makwanpur, heavy vehicles heading toward Kathmandu are being routed via the Tribhuvan Highway and returning through the Kanti Highway, subject to an 18:00 evening deadline at the Thingan police checkpoint.
Police have urged commuters to avoid non-essential travel, observe lane discipline, and strictly adhere to traffic control instructions as maintenance crews work to clear and repair damaged infrastructure.
